An All-Knowing God Puts Together a Great Team!

The Aurora Colorado team had planned on coming last October, but due to a political situation they were forced to postpone. Instead, God assembled a brand new team of 13 who arrived in March, ready to tackle the Gueseche project.

Due to the fact that the project had been delayed for so long, both the Gueseche church people and the team were anxious to get started on the building. One by one the blocks were laid, and within four short days, the mountaintop building was complete with roof and floor. It was a blessing to see the snow-capped Chimborazo volcano in the distance and to be surrounded by the green, patch-work mountains everyday as they worked.

Evangelism for the children was held during lunch because the children were working alongside the adults. During this time the team introduced stacking cups and the Evange-cube. When a different team visited in October, they introduced the Evange-ball, and they had no idea of how big an impact it would make on the children. One of the fathers shared that his three-year-old son explained to him the symbolism of the ball. He remembered each of the colors and what they represented. God speaks to and through the youngest children! The team brought evangelism tools and used them in two other services that we attended on Sunday.

The team all visited the orphanage in Riobamba again. When they were here three years ago they started saving clothes and toys to bring back to the orphanage, so they had a large amount of items to donate. They presented a program and were pleased with the family feeling of the orphanage. They were delighted to know that some of the children they had visited before had been adopted, but it was still just as difficult for them to leave them behind.

On the last afternoon the team had a small time of prayer and fellowship with their new friends, and presented a few Bibles and items to help in their evangelism. At the close, prayer was said in Spanish, Quechua, and English. Although they prayed in three different languages, and no one understood all three languages, God heard and understood all three prayers. Praise the Lord that we have an all-knowing God!

The Nyssa, Oregon, team gave of themselves unto the Lord

Recently, a team from Nyssa, Oregon, came to Ecuador and built the Emaus church. Previously, the church met in a very small rented building and had been waiting for its own building for a very long time. The team worked very hard and was able to get the columns and walls up with the help of the church people.

A highlight of the trip was holding service at the project site even though it didn’t have a roof. It was great to get to know the church people better. At the end of the service, the team made balloon animals for the children and passed out candy to all. That same evening, District Superintendent Mario Paredes, took the team up to a church in the mountains. There, they worshiped together with more than 100 indigenous men, women and children. They treated the team to beans and cuy (guinea pig) afterwards.

God Picks HIS Team for HIS Glory

Arizona Team

When a recent team from Arizona came to work in Ecuador, there were several special things about the team. First, Bruce and Cinda McKellips, former W&W Coordinators were on this team. On top of that, Kyle, the Mission Corps volunteer that works with teams, found out his mother, Jaynee, had booked a flight to visit him and it turned out she arrived the same night as the team.

The team of 14 from Arizona, Jaynee, and a staff of five headed for Riobamba to stay and work at our District Center. We would be working in the Sierra Centro District with District Superintendent Mario Paredes.

This project was different. Instead of shovels and trowels, the team used a ramset, which drives nails into concrete, hammers and electric drills. They put up drywall to make dividers for offices at the District Center. Not too many knew much about hanging drywall but that is where Jaynee came in. She knew how to tape together and plaster the drywall and had many good suggestions for us all.

Each person found a place to fit in, with all the measuring, hanging the drywall, taping, and plastering. They added a texture to the drywall and then started painting. By the end of the week there were eight or nine rooms with bathrooms and closets to the side of some of the rooms. The team finished and painted one room in a cream and terracotta color. It looked like a real office!

While most of the team was busy with the construction there were some in the kitchen purchasing the food, preparing the meals and doing laundry for the rest of the team. Thank you to the Arizona team, Jaynee from MN and everyone that supported the team. God bless you for giving of yourselves. God put together this team in HIS way, and we give Him all the glory.

From Calgary Canada to Guayaquil Ecuador

Recently a group of ten from Calgary First of Canada served in Guayaquil, Ecuador. At the Milagro (Miracle) church, they put on a roof structure and poured a cement floor for classrooms. In addition, they ministered to the children and showed the Jesus Film, and about 50 people came forward to accept Christ. At the Rosa de Oro (Rose of Gold) church, they poured cement for a second floor. They also worked on columns and walls. The team also held a kids ministry event with over 100 in attendance.

At the Costa District Center they put on a new roof, installed new doors, and painted the entire upper floor. There they held a second Jesus Film showing in a poor neighborhood of Guayaquil where about 35 people accepted Christ. The goal is to start a new mission work from this group of people. We praise God for all the work that the Calgary First team did, and pray that God will continue to use their experiences to further their walks with Him.

Spring Hill, Kansas, Team: an answer to prayer!

The small little town of Mendez didn't know what to think when a team from Spring Hill, Kansas, came to minister in their town. Mendez is a little village of about 1.000 people that is located at the beginning of the jungle. The team was made up of adults and teens.

The people from the Mendez church had built a rather large Sunday school room and had started the construction for the church building but just didn't have the money to continue. They had been praying for help, and the Spring Hill team was an answer to their prayers. Despite the heat, the team worked alongside the church people to lay block walls and pour the church floor. In addition, they held a Kids Club every afternoon. They started with 15 children and had over 30 by the last night of the program. The team also taught the church how to use the EvangeBall so that they can continue to share the gospel.

A highlight of the trip was that the team left the church Sunday School books for all ages so that they could start their Sunday School classes. The team was impacted by the church people of Mendez as well. The team will never forget the smiles and loving hugs of the Mendez adults and especially the children who were frequently by the teens’ sides.

The owner of the hotel where the team stayed inquired many times about the team and their activities. As it turns out, his grandson won a hacky-sack EvangeBall for bringing the most children to Kids Club. Now his grandson can share the gospel with him!

Go Tell It on the Mountain

A team of 17 youth and sponsors from Grand Rapids, Michigan, recently came to Ecuador to work in the jungle town of Santa Elena. The indigenous congregation of about 60, which mostly spoke Quichua, was excited to receive this team as they have been meeting in a sod hut for the past two years. Every day the team drove an hour up into the mountains to reach the site of the church. They worked at an elevation of 11-12,000 feet each day surrounded by the beauty of the Andes Mountains. The drive was educational as they observed the nationals herding sheep, planting food, walking to school, tending to their cattle, and walking from one place to another. The nationals‘ lives required much work and many sacrifices.

On Sunday night, when the team first arrived, they crowded into the hut and had a church service. The nationals and the team share songs with each other, and Pastor Phil from Grand Rapids shared a devotion.

It took three days to finish building the roof. While some of the group worked on the church, the other half of the group prepared for Bible School held everyday around 3:00. The team taught active songs in Spanish, played relay games outside, presented puppets with skits, and always had a craft for them to do. The children especially enjoyed the puppets, which were new to them.

The church people from the village didn’t have a lot that they were able to share but they wanted to show their gratitude to the team. On the last day they cooked a meal of potatoes, aves (a large meaty bean), and cuy (guinea pig) for lunch.

On the last day the church people gathered with the team to dedicate the church building. Everyone stood inside and held hands. Words of thanks and gratitude were spoken to each other, and it was immediately a moment the team would cherish for years to come.

On the last night team members testified that these experiences will shape their lives from here on out. As we continue to remember the church people of Santa Elena, we welcome you to join us in prayer. Also, we need to remember and pray for the youth members from Grand Rapids that they would keep seeking the Lord daily.

Canadian Mennonite Team Returns to Bless Ecuador Once Again!

Recently a Mennonite team from Alberta, Canada, was with us in Ecuador. Dana and Sherry Howard were the host missionaries for this group. During this time, we had an outreach for children and adults in a town about an hour from Quito in the rainforest. Many people participated. Then the group worked for two days in a new church in north Quito called Northern Hills Church. We helped put in a floor of paving stones for the church. On Sunday, there were over 100 people in the celebration of the new church.

But the group wasn’t finished! They also worked five days on a construction project on an indigenous church (Quechua) in South Quito. We were able to help them with a cement floor, new roof, doors, and windows. Over 30 different indigenous persons co-labored with us, many of which were women and children. Soon, the church will be able to move out of their portable chapel that holds about 60 people and move into their new building that should hold close to 160 people. Pastor Hugo of “City of God Church” is thrilled about his new building and the possibility of reaching more people for Christ. We want to thank Henry Fehr, the leader of the group, for organizing the team and raising the funds for these projects. May the Lord bless you.

Rain or Shine the Church Will Be Built

We were pleased to have a team from Sparta, Michigan, come and work in Palora, Ecuador. Palora is located in the Orient, at the beginning of the jungle. The town is about 45 minutes off the main highway at the end of a rocky road full of holes. After crossing a suspension bridge that is only wide enough for our fifteen-passenger vans to cross, you are in a small town where everyone knows you. The river is just beyond this town, and the road stops there.

Two years ago, the team leader from Michigan, Scott Senior, gave a list of potential projects to two other church members and asked them to pray over the list. When they met to discuss their ideas, all three people had the Palora project circled. Little did they know that at the same time, Pastor Angel and the Palora church were praying for a church building to replace the building that they were renting. Without a doubt, God brought the Michigan team and the Palora church together!

On April 1^st, the team had a 10-hour van ride to arrive at the church, due to some heavy traffic. For the next four days, they worked through alternating rain and sunshine to put the walls up, install windows and move big, heavy rocks in place for the floor. Even people who do not attend the church worked with the team! Pastor Angel was so blessed that he never quit smiling.

On Easter Sunday morning, the team met in a small rented building for Sunday school, and 20 children sung to them! The team then used the resurrection eggs to share the Easter story with all the children and taught them some new songs. Harrison, the Work & Witness assistant, shared the EvangeCube with them and many of the children invited Christ into their hearts. The team also held a class for the children during the week. They acted out Bible stories with the children, taught them songs and loved on them.

On Sunday night, the team was blessed by accepting an invitation to a Shuar village for a time of worship. The team ministered to over 40 children outside in the road during the church service. The Government donated a home to Nancy, one of the members of the church, so she donated her home to the church. Out of the love of their hearts, the team took up an offering so the Shuar congregation would be able to finish the windows and door in the church. After the service the team was treated to a cultural dance performance.

The team left a wonderful gift of Sunday School teacher's manuals and children’s books for all Sunday school classes of the Palora church. It is difficult for the churches to buy the Nazarene materials because of the cost. We are more than confident that Pastor Angel will share these materials with the other four Shuar missions that he has. We are also praying that Pastor Angel will be able to find better means of transportation to visit these missions other than his beat up bicycle.

The team left knowing that the Palora church people had been blessed but knew in their hearts that they were blessed beyond measure. Mid-Atlantic District Youth and Maya Moncayo Church

While most people were celebrating Christmas and the New Year, the Mid-Atlantic District Youth team was totally giving of themselves in Ecuador. The large team consisted of teens, young adults, their sponsors, and the missionary family. In addition, many national workers from the Santo Domingo area joined the team. The nationals also stayed with the team at the Nazarene Campground during the trip.

Missionary Jon Fischer had worked with the church people to get the property ready so that when the team arrived they could start laying the blocks, and the walls started going up. Through many rainy, hard workdays, the work team and the church people united together to finish the walls and the floor. The floor was poured on Saturday so that we could worship in the church on Sunday morning. It was a beautiful day to give thanks to the Lord for what had been accomplished. After a rest day to bring in the New Year, the team installed the roof and began the construction for the parsonage at the back of the church.

The youth from both cultures played soccer with the children during the days and did a Kids Club activity with the school nearby. The District Superintendent’s wife was thankful for these activities that introduced the church to the school and neighborhood.

One of the adult leaders, James Ellison, came to Ecuador in 1994 and had worked on the District Superintendent’s home at the campground. What a wonderful reunion he had when Rosa Bereche, the DS’s wife, was able to thank James personally for building her home. As it turned out, one of our Quechuan pastors that had worked with James in ’94 also worked on this project, so James was blessed by a second reunion.

One of the young pastors that worked with us testified that he had never really thought how the church building that he was preaching in was built. Now he understands what hard work and sacrifice goes into a church building. He has a new appreciation for his building and for the people that built his church.

Since Pastor Jose and his wife, some from his church, and the district youth were staying at the campground with the team, we had a bilingual time of praise and devotions every night. We were reminded that God has exactly what we need even though we often want to do it our way. The team members were challenged to make a difference in their world when they return home. On the last night of sharing, the common thread of the testimonies was that they feel so alone in the Christian world. Pray for these youth as they return home to live up to the challenge of making a difference.

Since returning, the team continues to testify how this trip has changed their lives. Although most of the team did not know each other, after one week of working together you were not able to tell. We thank God and the Mid Atlantic District for sending such amazing youth that want to serve God in any way possible.

Work & Witness: Building the Kingdom for Eternity

Recently a team of 21 from Calgary, Canada, came to work with and minister to our Indigenous people in Los Treboles del Sur (The Clovers of the South) church in southern Quito. While teams always come prepared to work on a physical building, it is always amazing to watch God work as He uses the team members to build His Kingdom for all eternity. Such was the case with this team.

The church needed a floor for the second story, which they will use as their sanctuary. The team spent the first three days preparing to pour a concrete floor. Because it had been raining each afternoon, the team left at 6:30 a.m. to try to get the job done before the afternoon. However, when they arrived, a crane that was supposed to be rented wasn’t available. Lucho, the Work & Witness worker, and Pastor Miguel left to try to find another crane, even though it is a hard job to find a large piece of equipment at the last minute. While waiting, some of the team members began praying, and prayer worked as always. The workers put the cranes in place, started up the concrete mixers, filled the containers with water and began the process to pour the floor! Forty Ecuadorian brothers and sisters worked alongside the Canadian team, and about 60 people were fed at lunch that day. By 3:30 pm the work was done and everyone was tired but very pleased. God held off the rain that afternoon and into the night. See picture 1.

The team still had a few days to work, so they turned their attention on repairing the landslide area behind the Work & Witness center. They dug out the area, made large cages to put rocks in and then filled the cages with rocks. That was a great help to us because rainy season had started and we need didn’t want to lose any more land. We give a huge thanks to the team for working so hard to have time to help with this much-needed project. See picture 2.

While the work was going on everyday at the church, another part of the team was holding Vacation Bible School in the afternoons in the small portable chapel beside the new church. The team focused on teaching scripture verses and acting out stories so that the children would remember them. The children also received prizes for learning scripture, bringing their Bibles, and bringing a friend. One little girl, Allison, brought her mom, Grandma and brother to VBS with her. The entire family helped to teach the stories and songs. They did not attend church anywhere but were very interested. The theme was “obedience.” On the last day the team members presented the plan of salvation with the soccer ball and the evange-cube. See picture 3 and 4.

On Sunday afternoon the team began the hour trek to the church and it was pouring down rain and even started to hail. They were wondering if they’d be able to have service at the church since it didn’t have a roof yet. Once they arrived, they took chairs to the new sanctuary and swept the standing water off the floor. Soon it was all ready, except there was no electricity. The children remembered the songs from VBS and sang without any music. Everyone could hear their voices so clearly. Luz was the helper/teacher from the church that worked with the team in VBS all week. She was very shy and wasn’t sure she could tell the stories in front of adults while the children acted them out. However, she did an outstanding job, especially when she presented the plan of salvation. The team was so proud of her.

Pray for the Los Treboles del Sur congregation that they will see the need to reach out to help other churches as two Work and Witness teams have helped them. Pray that they will experience the verse, “It is better to give than to receive”. Pray for the Work and Witness team as they have returned home and are processing what they have experienced. Pray that they will be open to what God has for them.

God's Plan Is Never Plan B

In September, a team of 18 arrived from Joplin, MO. While the Fischers were at the airport waiting to pick up the team, they got a telephone call from the District Superintendent informing them that due to complications the team couldn’t work on the planned project, and that he had another project in mind. So although it was plan B for the team, it turned out NOT to be God’s plan B. God had a wonderful surprise in store.

The team worked at the District Center in Riobamba for a couple of days and put the roof on the conference center area, poured a ceiling and put up the walls on the guard’s quarters. An opportunity for evangelism arose with the children as one team member cut hair and others created new hairstyles for the girls using pretty ponytail holders. Many of the mothers wanted their hair cut also. (See photo 1.)

While working at the District Center, some of the indigenous church people worked alongside the team. Then on Sunday night, the team went up into the mountains to worship in the church of the indigenous brothers and sisters that had been helping. It took an hour to wind along the narrow, dirt roads to get to the church, which was the next project. They didn’t have a roof so they worshipped in the cold mountain air. While singing, there was a rainbow in the sky, and everyone could see it because there was no roof. The church cooked and served llama afterwards to warm the team up. (See photo 2.)

During the next couple of days, the team helped the church put up a roof. The indigenous people proved to the team that carrying roofing and blocks is so much easier when you carry them on your back. Believe it or not, it is! The roof was finished just in time before it began to hail. (See photo 3.)

Part of the team had another evangelism opportunity in a little school at the bottom of the mountain. One lady on the team is a teacher, and the kids in her school had collected a lot of school supplies. The parents of the indigenous children came to the mountain school and thanked the team over and over for the little bags of supplies, probably worth $2.00 each.

The Fischers found the team to be a joy to work with because they were so flexible, humble and appreciative of everything. The team saw a need for the floor to be put in the mountain church so they raised over half of the money needed before they left. When the team returned home, one of the members shared in his church and they took a love offering and raised well over what was needed for the floor, doors and windows. Praise God! Furthermore, the little mountain church been praying and waiting for help to put a roof on their building for over 20 years! The team shared that working in the mountains was exactly what they needed. Praise God for putting the Joplin District team with the mountain people and for orchestrating plan B. Everyone was blessed beyond measure.

McKellips Return to Lead Arizona Team

Bruce & Cinda McKellips, former W&W Coordinators in Ecuador, recently returned to lead the Sun City Arizona team along with Fischers. (See photo 1.) The team made great progress on the Sierra Centro District Center. They finished laying block on the second floor, installed the beautiful front doors and built the kitchen wall. Also, there is now hot water and working bathrooms. (See photo 2.)

God's hand is always evident in how He puts a team together, but several special things occurred with this team. Ken performed magic tricks for the local children as they passed by the project after school and at an orphanage. (See photo 3.) One team member turned out to be the mother of a special friend to the Fischers who has made numerous trips to Venezuela and has hosted the Fischers a couple of times while they were in the States. In addition, God blessed two recent widows by putting them together as roommates.

One special day was spent visiting a church in the mountains. Whey the team arrived, about 50 children playing soccer welcomed them. The team sang a few songs with the children. When it came time to pray with them, all the children removed their hats in unison. The team was touched beyond words. (See photo 4.)

Thank you Sun City Church for partnering with us in this long-term project. The District Center will be a place of pastoral training and for the fellowship of District brothers and sisters. May God richly bless you.

Construction/Medical Team from Calgary First

In April, a construction/medical team from Calgary First Church of the Nazarene came to Riobamba, Ecuador, to work on the Sierra Centro District Center and to hold medical clinics on the district. (See photo 1.) The construction team laid blocks, poured floors, installed plumbing in the bathrooms and did a lot of cleaning. The kitchen ladies took their jobs seriously as they had 35 people to feed each day.

The medical team united with four national doctors from our coast district. Missionary Nurse Carolyn Rich, along with others, translated for the doctors. They held clinics for 4 1/2 days seeing over 200 patients each day. One clinic was held way up in the mountains. They treated stomach aches, colds, aching muscles and dispensed a lot of vitamins and medicines. Of course, prayer was the number one remedy as they prayed with most of the patients. (See photos 2 & 3.)

One of the highlights for the team was attending Sunday morning services in a tent and being warmly received with flowers and gifts for all. On the day of touring, they rode an open bus, visited a waterfall and took a cable ride across a deep ravine.

Mennonite Canadian Team Partners with Us

In March, we hosted a Mennonite Canadian team. Henry Fehr, team leader, brought 15 team members including his wife and three daughters. (See photo 1.) We were deeply blessed that another denomination would partner with our church to help with our building project. They worked in Riobamba on the Sierra Centro District Center, which is an on-going Work & Witness project. (See photo 2.)

At first, we were confused by their Canadian "accent" but then realized that they were speaking German! We became a trilingual team. The team worked very hard at laying blocks, pouring floors, and working alongside our indigenous men and women. We handed out invitations to the Jesus Film showing that has held on a cold night in front of the newly finished church at the District Center. (See photo 3.) About 20 people warmly accepted the invitation to receive Christ into their hearts that night. Teens from the mother church were there to talk with the new converts to get names and addresses.

One afternoon, the women took time out from cooking to hold a Bible School for area children. They heard the story of Noah and then pasted animal crackers, with frosting, on the ark that they had brightly colored. The group also invited Diego and his family to share his testimony and then encouraged them by praying for the family. Diego testified how the Lord had delivered him from Satanic worship. He went to a Jesus Film showing when invited by a friend.

We say "thank you" to the hard working Mennonite team for partnering with us in our building of the Kingdom in Ecuador. May God richly bless you for your giving.

Recent Team Partners with National Nazarenes

The recent team comprised of folk from Pennsylvania, Kansas and Michigan had a rough beginning as some team members’ arrival was delayed due to weather and mechanical difficulties. (See picture 1.) Finally everyone arrived and the team was ready to work on the Sierra Central District Center in Riobamba despite an overwhelming amount of rain and cold temperatures. Over fifty brothers and sisters from area churches worked alongside the team as they lay over 2000 blocks and poured 17 large columns for the second story of the building. They also cleaned an underground water tank, made a lid for it, wired lights and cleaned up the new church at the district center. (See picture 2.)

The kitchen ladies always had a hot meal ready for the workers to eat. At lunchtime the women, along with the help of Javier, stopped the children on their way home from school and taught them some songs. On the last day they shared the evange-cube with the children and over fifty children prayed the prayer of forgiveness,

Harry and Marion Rich, the parents of Dwight Rich (Field Strategy Coordinator), led this team. It was a blessing to see the father-son team share the Word of God in two languages, sometimes three, when Harry’s French came to him from previous years serving as missionaries in Haiti.

The team attended the dedication of property, donated by a NAF partner, for an addition to the Christian School at the Bellavista Nazarene Church. This school has over four hundred students from K-High School and needs a lot more space. (See picture 3.)

On the last Sunday night, the team visited a church that was holding services in a tent. The team was invited to a home of one of the church members to eat roasted guinea pig and potatoes, a delicacy for Ecuador. The team became burdened for the tent church people and are now praying and raising money for property for this church. We thank God for His servants that have open hearts and are willing to do what God asks them.

Colorado Team Continues Work at Guamaní Church

On January 12, the Work and Witness team from the Colorado District arrived in Ecuador. This group had many different talents, gifts and professions: a woodworker, retired art teacher, retired biologist, a home-schooling mom, a pharmacy tech, a real estate agent, a llama farmer, two pastors, a nurse, two teenagers, a pilot, a potato farmer and a boy with a missionary call. (See picture 1.)

On Sunday they visited two churches. The first was the Mount Sinai church where some of the team members or family members of team members had worked at in the past. The second was the Guamaní church, an indigenous church in the southern part of Quito. We enjoyed a special time of worship in three languages: Spanish, Quechua and English. The worship set the tone for the relationships and friendships that would be built during the next two weeks while the team worked to finish the second floor of the church. Although the work was long and hard, the team was encouraged knowing that God’s plan will be accomplished through this church and its people. (See pictures 2 and 3.)

The team, along with some women in the church, held Kids club twice a week for the neighborhood children. One day the local school allowed them to tell the Bible story. The retired art teacher on the team drew a beautiful chalk drawing for the kids during the story depicting Jonah and the Big Fish. It was a great opportunity to open doors between the church and the school, and we look forward to hear how God uses this opportunity to build relationships in this community. (See picture 4.)

The highlight of the trip occurred at the end of the last day when everyone gathered to share in worship in this new place. It was a beautiful time of sharing and praising the Lord. Afterwards, the churchwomen announced that they had a surprise. They proceeded to thank each team member by putting a scarf around their necks as a reminder of their work. The team was profoundly impacted by the generosity of these brothers and sisters in Christ who had so little. It was a reminder that “Little is MUCH when GOD is in it.”

Eldon, Missouri, Team Returns

Recently, the W&W team from Eldon, Missouri, came with a lot of work experience and enthusiasm to prepare the Seminary campus for the first semester of NILI. They built and welded new desks and other furniture, painted, installed new lights, and built a new classroom. They also touched many lives through their generous spirits.

This was the first time to Ecuador for four of the members; the other members have made multiple trips to Ecuador in previous years. We praise God for the support these team members have given and continue to give to the North Andean Field.

Texarkana 1st Team

Saturday, July 28, began with much excitement for the W&W team from Texarkana, Texas, but it was to become a day of frustration for most of the team. Due to a series of complications, one person arrived Saturday, three more on Monday and four more on Thursday. After so many days of frustrating travel, the team really worked hard when they finally made it to the job site.

The team was also joined by Mission Corps volunteers Al & Dianne Wright. Their trip here was also a medical miracle for Dianne. Al writes about his time with the team: “Sometimes things don't go as planned, or even hoped, but through it all, God works miracles. The Sunday services in the newly painted and occupied sanctuary were nothing short of blessings beyond measure. The evening service completely packed out the facility. It was such a privilege to work under the leadership of Bruce and Cinda. I was so privileged to be able to work with the Texarkana team and to accomplish what we did with so few there, yet to get as much accomplished as we did. It is just so neat to be able to work with people one has never met before and instantly feel the bond of Christ's love. He is in control!”

Team from Jesus Film Harvest Partners

From July 14-21, 20 people from all over the US traveled to Ecuador with Jesus Film Harvest Partners, a ministry of the International Church of the Nazarene. The team showed the Jesus film in three different barrios of Ecuador. 600 Ecuadorians showed up with 181 people making decisions for Christ.

Team from Mississippi, Louisiana and Kentucky

A Work & Witness team made up of people from the states of Mississippi, Louisiana and Kentucky enjoyed their time of ministry in Ecuador. (See photo 1.) They continued construction work on Sierra Central District Center in Riobamba, Ecuador. Their work included making forms, pouring concrete and laying concrete block. They poured a roof over the sanctuary and storefront areas of the building. (See photos 2 & 3.) In addition to construction work, they also held a VBS and visited an orphanage. (See photo 4.) We thank God for their hard work and willingness to serve.

Marysville, WA team

A Jesus Film team from the Marysville, WA, Church of the Nazarene recently spent time in Ecuador. (See photo 1.) During their visit they attended a Kid’s Club at our Chillogallo church and visited several of the Jesus Film church plants in the Quito and Santa Domingo areas. (See photo 2.) More than 80 people attended their first Jesus Film showing in the town of Llano Chico, and 22 people accepted Christ. Later that week another Jesus Film showing in the same town was rained out; however, 11 of the 22 who were saved showed up and the pastor was able to meet with them and begin to disciple them.

During a Jesus Film showing in the town of Rumiñahui, approximately 150 attended the showing and 50 children and 39 teens/adults were saved. At the beginning of the evening a gang of young men tried to steal the video equipment. After the film, two gang members made decisions for Christ. Praise the Lord!

For team members Rev. Don and Cheryl Cox, former missionaries who served in Ecuador, this trip was also a time of closure. Over ten years ago, while serving in Quito, Don was kidnapped. After his release, his family left Quito and served in Central America. They now serve with Jesus Film Harvest Partners in Kansas. This trip was the first time for Don and Cheryl to return to Ecuador. Don and ten others hiked up to the site where he was held hostage. (See photo 3.) The experience evoked many memories and emotions for the Coxes, and later that evening, they shared their testimony of the power of prayer and of God’s protection. It was definitely an evening of celebration.

The recent Canadian team from Grande Prairie and Calgary continued the work on the Chillogallo church. Their main task was building the walls on the 2nd floor. Pictures 1 - 3 are of their work and their results. They also enjoyed meeting the church people and providing some activities for local children as shown in pictures 4 & 5.

Beside the construction work on the church, several team members also blessed some of the missionary families by working on their homes and/or appliances. God is always good to send the right people to do the necessary jobs!

We praise God for the Baker City, Oregon W & W team as they served and ministered recently in Riobamba, Ecuador. There were several teenagers on this team that had the opportunity to minister to school children as they walked by the job site on their way home from school (as shown in the first picture above).

The team helped prepare and pour the second floor and stairs of the District Center in Riobamba. The remaining pictures show their achievements.

They had the exciting experience of watching the activity of the Tungurahua volcano in the distance while they worked. they also enjoyed worshipping with their new Ecuadorian brothers and sisters in Christ each Sunday.

Ohio Team . . . a Surprise and a Blessing!

Recently the team from Circleville, Ohio, came as a surprise . . . and left as a blessing. They were originally scheduled to go to Bolivia but there were complications in which they could not enter that country. We received a call from HQ to see if we could accommodate this team with less than two days notice. And we could!

Because of the short notice, the usual supplies that are ordered for a project had not been ordered, so the team spent the first few days with many projects. Some painted the comodore (dining hall) at the W&W center, some repaired a leak in the comodore's kitchen sink, some built new cabinets to replace the ones ruined by the leak, and some worked in the Seminary's library cataloging English books. God definitely sent us a blessing because the team was willing to help with whatever we needed -- and we definitely had several needs!

Eventually, the team left the Quito area to continue foundation work on the newly started church in Chillogallo (south of Quito). These pictures show the hard work required. We praise God for sending this team to us!

Lewiston, Idaho Team

A medical team came to Ecuador and treated over 2200 patients during the one week they were here! In this picture, the team set up a one-day clinic in Las Planadas, an extremely poor and remote area. In the clinics, the medical staff gave necessary medical care and donated medicine to those who otherwise would not get help. The team also left behind medicines that the Nazarene mission will continue to use in compassionate ministry.

Because the clinics were held in local churches in several communities, this team's presence raised awareness of the Nazarene church and its openness to help the community.

Mini W&W Trips: Openings for Summer 2006!

Many people want to experience a W&W trip but time, money and/or family obligations prevent them from doing so. If this describes you or someone you know, please read on!

Although the current W&W system of two-week projects with about 20 team members continues to be a successful ministry opportunity, we’re offering a shorter, less expensive alternative which will allow more people to participate . . . including children.

How It Will Work
We’re currently scheduling one-week W&W trips for as few as 5 to 12 people. The team could consist of all men for very rugged conditions or 2 to 3 couples with children who want to expose their children to another culture and a mission field as one week of their vacation. We'll select the project to fit the team members, not the team members to fit the project.

Guidelines
We want to be as flexible as possible, but still try to adhere to these guidelines:

Duration: One week. The team will arrive on Saturday (in the late afternoon or before midnight) and depart the following Saturday early in the morning.

Team size: There should be a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 12. The team can consist of all men, or men and women, or men, women and teens.

In-Country Cost:
· Construction: $200.00 per person
· Food, housing, utilities, and transportation: $150.00 per person

Other Costs:
· Cost of Insurance through Headquarters
· $25 Ecuador Exit tax

Schedule:
a. Arrive on Saturday evening
b. Worship and rest on Sunday
c. Work Monday through Thursday
d. Shop and sightsee on Friday
e. Depart on Saturday morning

Our Sierra Centro District has over 40 churches of which half of them are Quichua-speaking indigenous churches. This District Center is the largest Work & Witness project outside our Quito Seminary.

This facility will have a variety of elements including: a Jesus Film church plant, parsonage for the pastor, district offices and district parsonage, theological education classrooms for Quichua and Spanish students, a storefront for rent, caretaker’s quarters, housing for Work & Witness teams as well as for rental purposes and a dining hall.
